Imagine, doing laundry without chemicals, without fragrances, and with an earth friendly cleaner…. well you don’t have to imagine it, because it already exists.
The SmartKlean laundry ball is amazing! We have been using it for several weeks now and I couldn’t imagine going back to any type of detergent.
How much do you think you spend on detergent a year? $100, $200? How much plastic ends up in landfills from all those bottles? Even with coupons and sales, detergent can get expensive. The laundry ball is easy to use too, just throw it in the washer with your clothes and wash. The first load we tried with the laundry ball, I was hanging it on the clothesline and wondering why it didn’t smell. You know the smell I’m talking about, that flowery perfume smell that we have come to think of as smelling “clean” when in fact we are inhaling potentially toxic chemicals. When using the laundry ball you smell nothing… just clothing. At first I had trouble adjusting, but the more we washed the more I liked it.
Today, however, was the real test. I had clothing stored in our basement (yes that is a bad idea at my house) and it had that musty basement smell. I put the clothes in the washer with the laundry ball and hoped for the best. I’m thrilled to tell you, that there is no more musty smell! The clothes are ready to wear again.

I learned that detergents and soaps reduce the surface tension of the water and increase the pH levels, making it easier for the water to remove the dirt from the fabrics.
I learned they are derived from Earth minerals.
Question. Have you tried this when washing by hand with a plunger? I just ordered a breathing hand washer and was curious.
Lori – I haven’t yet… I had planned to, but my plunger was damaged over winter and I haven’t replaced it yet. But I will give it a try in the next couple weeks and do another post on the results!!!!

I learned that these pottery like stones can actually clean laundry. They even said the Ball softens clothes too!
I learned you have to beware of knock offs. They have a great page that helps you know your buying the authentic product.

No chemicals which I absolutely love! This looks like a great idea!
Effectively washes 365 loads of laundry without using any soap or detergents. Replaces fabric softener and dryer sheets. Helps to conserve water and energy.
